Petroglyph National Monument
Petroglyph National Monument
Petroglyph National Monument is located on the west side of Albuquerque.
It stretches over 17 miles across a string of dormant fissure volcanoes and is home to ancient Pueblo Indian
and Spanish settler petroglyphs of which there are over 24,000!
The monument also protects the five volcanic cones and multiple archaeological sites. There are numerous hiking trails at the
monument ranging from a few minute hikes to a few hours and covers all difficulty levels. It’s also only 15 minutes from downtown Albuquerque! Here at NewMexi.co, we believe that this monument is a site all New Mexicans should see.
It not only makes for a beautiful hike, but also a brief peek into New Mexico’s rich, historical background.
