Top 10 Sights to See at Meow Wolf
Recently I got the chance to explore the mysterious, mystical playground that is Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return. With an impressive amount of depth and detail, I am sure I missed a few things and probably have even forgotten a few since my visit, so if your favorite part of Meow Wolf isn’t listed here, leave a comment and let me know what yours was! Read on to see what my personal top 10 sights to see at Meow Wolf are– but be warned, there are spoilers ahead!
10. The Musical Mammoth
Inside the depths of the House of Eternal Return lies the skeleton of what seems to be a mammoth. Resting on a nearby rock are some extra bones that you can pick up and bang on the ribcage of the skeleton like a xylophone.

9. Laser Harp
Through one of the many doorways, there is a dark room with black walls and black seating areas. In the center of the room are strands of solid red light being cast from floor to ceiling. When you disrupt the light with your fingers or body, the strands of light act light the strings of a harp and emit a range of soothing tones.

8. Detailed Documents: The Planner & The Journal
Throughout the house there are various documents- scraps of paper, letters, notes- but the most illuminating ones are the planner, belonging to Lucius Selig, and the journal, belonging to his sister Piper Pastore. The planner contains insight into events that happened to the Selig family as well as a *very* important clue that is the only way to access additional secret information in a different part of the house. Piper’s journal contains extensive passages about her family and detailed accounts of events.

7. Future Fantasy Delight Room
I stumbled upon this room as I was about to call it quits and leave, but I’m so glad I found this room first! Every inch of it is covered in illustrations by local artist, Nico Salazar AKA Future Fantasy Delight. The black and white drawings consist of characters and objects that reference pop culture, New Mexico, and Nico’s own personal experiences.

6. The Charter Portal
In the office of Emerson Selig, you can sit at the desk and browse the documents on the computer. If you click on a little icon on the desktop, it opens up an interface called The Charter Portal, and you are logged in as an agent of the Charter. You have access to extensive logs and archives of information regarding the Selig family, the “Singularity”, and much more interesting & confusing information.

5. Arcade
Meow Wolf has an arcade? Yes! If you wander around long enough, you will find Wiggy’s Plasma Plex, a room full of neon patterns straight out of an 80s bowling alley with retro arcade games. The arcade’s tenant is named Plotzo, a cyber-punk rat… person (?) who looks like Chuck-E-Cheese gone wrong. But keep your quarters in your pockets, kid- all the games are free!!!

4. Diorama Alley
In what seems to be a sort of “transdimensional slum”, there is an alleyway full of elaborate dioramas. One diorama is particularly meaningful if you have learned anything about Lex Selig’s hamster, Nimsesku. It features a hamster with some sort of microchip attached to its head, with wires connecting the chip to some other piece of equipment. There are tiny people fractions of the size of the hamster standing around, and a pyramid with four eyeballs looking out from the tip of the pyramid. But what does it mean?

3. Backyard/Treehouses
An incredibly beautiful part of Meow Wolf is the backyard of the house. Colorful shimmering lights and intricate paper leaves weave through patterned tree structures to create a truly dreamlike landscape. There are multiple sitting areas depending on whether you are on the upper-level or lower-level, and each area has a unique aesthetic. My favorite area was the animal eye dome, which is a dark dome where large animal eyes light up all around you and you can hear the sounds of those animals echoing in the background.

2. Laundry Room
Somewhere around the kitchen of the house, you turn a corner and see a dryer, sitting alone in a laundry room. If you’re thinking, “how strange, a dryer but no washing machine,” then you are on to something! If you open the dryer you will see a tunnel of revolving blue lights that begs you to fall into it. Slide down the tunnel and you will find it- the place where all your missing socks go!

1.Portals Bermuda
Perhaps the most infamous part of Meow Wolf is the passage through the refrigerator door. When you step through the door, everything is pure white, giving you a sort of suspicious feeling that you might be walking into a top-secret government facility that you probably shouldn’t be in. Soon you find yourself in what seems like an alien waiting room, with glowing purple, blue, and green lights and smooth, futuristic architectural details. Explore this area a bit more and you will find different numbered “portals” to other dimensions advertised as vacation destinations. On the right side of every doorway there is a glowing outline of a hand on a touchpad. The doors slide open when you place your hand on a touchpad, just like in your favorite futuristic-alien movies and video games. There are four different destinations: Murok-Inoo, St. Malibados, Viridian Heights, and Todos-7. Each area is a sight to behold, like a dreamy mash-up of all the most beautiful sunsets, mountains, beaches, and forests with the color amped up. Whether this area helps make sense of the mystery or adds to it is highly individual, but either way it is a must-see spot at Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return.
