Get Plowed at the Tractor
New Mexico-based breweries are popping up left and right. If you are a craft beer lover, a self-proclaimed ‘beer geek”, or a craft beer aficionado, New Mexico is the place to be. NewMexi.co had the pleasure of meeting with Carlos Contreras of Tractor Brewing Co., with one of the coolest job titles we have come across: the “Good Times Liaison”. Carlos was gracious enough to teach us what Tractor Brewing Co. is all about, and gave us a tour of their hidden 4th Street location.

Currently, Tractor Brewing Co. has two locations in Albuquerque. Nob Hill, which opened in 2010, and Wells Park, last year. We were unaware that the Wells Park location even existed! It is larger than the Nob Hill location and has a different atmosphere. Master brewer, David Hargis, hand-built and intricately designed all of the tables in both locations.
Tractor Brewing Co. offers some classic brews on tap such as Farmer’s Tan IPA, Almanac IPA, Oatmeal Stout, Milk Mustachio Stout, Pilsner, and Sod Buster Ale, along with several seasonal brews. Any palate is catered to, whether you’re in the mood for a hoppy, stout, dark, or light beer. The brewery also offers homemade hard cider, which have turned out to be one of their biggest sellers. We tried the Oatmeal Stout, one of three offered, and it was delicious!
Tractor is much more than a brewery; it is all about the experience. Tractor often hosts many events which supports local artists. Tractor’s staff has dancers, actors, and spoken word artists. Even the brewery’s cans are designed by local 23-year-old artist, David Santiago. His work is remarkable and quite distinctive.

Tractor loves promoting the diversity in our community. Community outreach is another area in which they are set apart from the rest. They are involved with fundraisers and have their own giving program called ‘Beer for a Better Burque’. Beer for a Better Burque supports four nonprofit organizations, which are detailed on their website, www.getplowed.com.
Supporting our locals should be a priority for any small business, and Tractor does just that. All of the honey used in their ciders and beers is produced right here in New Mexico. They also distribute throughout the state. “Anywhere you find Bud Light, you should be able to find Tractor products,” Carlos mentioned. (Tractor shares the same distributor, Premier Distributing.) If you have not yet had the pleasure of enjoying the brews at Tractor Brewing Co., we highly recommend you visit both locations to see which better suits your style!
